It's episode one and we are introduced to the five ladies of Washington, D.C.--the most powerful city in America, where unlike the other Real Housewives cities, it's not all about the money, it's all about the political power. In the first episode, the social season is in full swing and we see Michaele in full action at one of her polo events which purportedly caters to those who want to be close to it all. Notable attendees to the event include the Ambassador of India (an point which will be of interest later in the season), Michelle Jones and Republican lobbyist, Edwina Rogers. We learn that Lynda and Michaele are old rivals, so Lynda snubs the polo event. Meanwhile, Mary spends the episode struggling with the guest list for her birthday party. Cat, who is described as a brash Brit and is the new girl in town, gets a crash course in public relations when she attends fellow Real Housewife, Stacie's dinner party.
